Free Solarize CNY Workshop

“Solarize CNY”, the Town of Skaneateles, and Sustainable Skaneateles invite the community to attend a Solarize CNY workshop to be held Wednesday, September 30 from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Skaneateles Fire Department, 77 West Genesee Street, Skaneateles. The workshop provides information on NYS incentives, which encourage adoption of clean, sustainable energy for homeowners, businesses, landlords, farms, and non-profits. This free community education workshop will help people familiarize themselves with the benefits of solar energy and the bulk purchasing discounts that are offered through the program.

Take advantage of the Solarize campaign’s pre-qualified installers, selected through a competitive process based on quality, service and equipment.

Solarize CNY representatives and partner installers will be available at the workshop to help answer any questions that you might have. Workshop attendees will also have the opportunity to enroll in a free-no-obligation site assessment to determine whether your site is suitable for Solar Power and how much you can save if you make the switch to solar.

How does the Solarize CNY campaign Work?

The Solarize campaign combines the purchasing power of our community to negotiate a reduced price for individual solar installations. This reduced price, when combined with state and federal tax credits and state incentives, makes solar power more affordable than ever!

The Solarize CNY Campaign is based on the success of last year’s Solarize Syracuse campaign — which more than doubled the number of solar installations in Syracuse and selected suburbs.

Back by popular demand, Sustainable Skaneateles’ “Re-Bike” event will return to the Allyn Arena on Saturday May 30, 2015, from 9am to 1 pm.  This family-oriented event will again feature bicycle repair workshops, person-to-person bicycle ales or swaps, and a Bike Rodeo for kids in grades 1 through 5.

“Last year’s Re-Bike was a great success,” says event organizer and cycling enthusiast Dave Middleton. “Many families found just the right replacement bike for one or more of their growing bicyclists. Everyone who shopped for new wheels– adults and kids alike– really appreciated the chance to try out the bikes by riding around inside the Allyn Arena.”

Anyone who has a bicycle they no longer use — whether adult or kid-size– is encouraged to bring that equipment to Allyn Arena on the morning of the Re-bike, where they can offer it for sale or swap on whatever terms they choose. “Obviously, the more bikes people bring to sell or swap, the better the chances that other folks will find something they want or need,” says Middleton. Bike equipment and gently-used clothing are also welcome.There is no admission fee or other charge for participating in the Re-bike.

The event will include demonstrations on bike repair, tire changing, bike sizing and adjustment, and more. There will also be a Rules-of-the-Road Review and , beginning at 11 am, a Bike Rodeo for kids in grades 1-5. Kids must have their own bikes and helmets to participate in the Rodeo. At the end of the event, any bikes are no longer wanted may be donated to become part of the CNY Family Bike Giveaway at Christmastime.
